Springer Gulch Fire Now 970 Acres

The fire has grown to 970 acres early Monday afternoon, more than doubling since Sunday night, and with 0 percent contained, shows no signs of slowing down.

The fire was first reported around 1 p.m. Sunday as a 2-4 acre blaze in the Springer Gulch, giving the fire its name. It quickly ballooned in size as it spread quickly, forcing the mandatory evacuations of at least 500 residents of Park County as the fire crept near their homes.

The fire is burning three miles south of Lake George and two miles north of 11 Mile Reservoir. This is the third fire to ignite in the area in two weeks, and comes just days after the last fire was contained. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

What we have heard is some yahoo shot a propane bottle for fun.
