Two opportunities are coming up to help conserve Bear Creek in the Pikes Peak Region.
The Rocky Mountain Field Institute -- in conjunction with Colorado Springs Parks and the Cheyenne Mountain Chapter of Trout Unlimited -- will be continuing its habitat improvement work on Bear Creek. This work is to help protect a population of the threatened Colorado Greenback Cutthroat trout from excessive sedimentation coming from the trail.
On Saturday, September 8, the workday will be for maintenance on some of the sediment detention structures.
Another work day is scheduled for October 6. This work day will be on the lower non-motorized section of the trail. The work scheduled for the day includes
1. Close social trails and rehabilitate areas with willow and native plants where applicable
2. Close campsites and rehabilitate areas with willow and native plants where applicable
3. Install signage on importance of GBT and the habitat
