Today we honor the men and women who have served our country in the armed forces. The freedoms we enjoy, the quality of life we live, are a result of the dedicated and selfless efforts of those wearing the uniform of all the branches of the U.S. military. Here, briefly, is a look at some of the more prestigious military leaders and their pursuit of fly fishing.
President & General Eisenhower was one avid fly fisher. For an interesting glimpse into his fly fishing life, visit this website from paflyfish.
General Norman Schwarzkopf was an avid fly fisher. "He made no secret that it was a huge passion of his. He was a fisherman all his life, but when he was stationed in Fort Lewis, near Tacoma, he took some fly fishing lessons and never looked back. He had said that Alaska was probably his favorite place to fly fish and that sounds like a good choice to me."

General George C. Marshall was photographed fly fishing on the beach at Fire Island.
Finally, and more closer to home, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings. Check out Project Healing Waters' Facebook page for more information on the Colorado Springs chapter.
"To go fishing is the chance to wash one’s soul with pure air, with the rush of the brook, or with the shimmer of sun on blue water." -- Herbert Hoover
