Celebrate OUR Public Lands: May 19, 2018

05/16/18 at 05:37 AM by Vince Puzick

In May 2016, Colorado became the first state in the nation to celebrate Public Lands Day. The third Saturday in May is now designated as a day to celebrate all that public lands offer the citizens of Colorado, from our forests, rivers, and grasslands, to the state parks that belong to us all.  So, this Saturday, May 19, get outdoors and enjoy our wild places!

As recreational users of our public lands, we need to recognize just what this incredible outdoors resource brings to our state.  As a retailer, we are very cognizant that the outdoor recreation industry brings in $28 BILLION dollars in consumer spending.  We have over 13 MILLION visitors to our state parks each year.  Outdoor recreation provides 230,000 jobs in Colorado.  Yes, for us Angler's Covey, public lands is a big part of our business.

And it is also a source of pride for us. We know the fine balance we need to maintain so we can recreate while also preserve, explore while we conserve, and protect the lands that belong to all of us.  We work hard to protect the 10,000 miles (give or take a mile or two) of rivers and streams, including nearly 170 miles of Gold Medal waters, and the 2000 lakes and reservoirs in our state.  We are committed to promote and protect the 24 million acres of public lands in the state of Colorado.

So, while May 19 is a day dedicated to exploring our public lands, we know that the opportunities to get outdoors in Colorado are 24/7 and 365 days a year.  As a fly fishing shop, we invite you into the adventure -- and that adventure is to be found in our public lands.
