Angler's Covey September 2011 Newsletter

What a Great Summer!...

I want to personally thank you for shopping and supporting our local business. All the staff at Angler’s Covey understands how valuable you are to our success and we sincerely appreciate it.

It has been a fantastic summer of fishing this year. Whether you got out on the South Platte, fished some small streams, or hiked into one of the many lakes we have close by, the fishing seemed to be as good as it could get. But before you put away that rod don’t forget how awesome the fall fishing season can be!

Kids are back in school, Hunters are out looking at scat, and the football junkies are glued to the flat screen. This is the time of year when perfect days are found on our local streams and lakes. Brown trout are beginning to spawn and feed heavily to get ready. And the colors and crisp air are just reminders of how special a place it is that we live in.

This fall, be sure to come to our annual Guide Yard Sale, Saturday, October 8th. This is where our guides sell their gently used gear at some great prices. We also have our deepest discounts on select items throughout the store, so don’t miss this opportunity to score big.

We have several new plans coming soon here at Angler’s Covey. Some have already arrived including the GoPro Hero HD camera! Come check them out along with several other new products we have this fall. Coming next March, we plan to expand our Stillwater department which will include kayaks made to stand up and fish from! Becky and I fly fished for small mouth Bass on the Colorado River below Austin, Texas, over Labor Day weekend and had a blast. These boats are a lot of fun!

Everything we do at Angler’s Covey is for one purpose… to help you get out and enjoy the great fishing we have in our backyard. We want to continually invite you into adventure…

Get out while you can!

New Cline Ranch SWA to open this Saturday

This Saturday the Colorado Parks and Wildlife will dedicate the new Cline Ranch State Wildlife Area in South Park. This area is located west of Highway 285 just north of Como on the Tarryall Creek.

The Tarryall averages around 20 cfs in this section of the creek and the Division of Wildlife plans a new management strategy. To maintain this high quality trout fishery and provide secluded angling experiences, the stream has been divided into 4 sections called "fishing beats." Each of the 4 parking stalls is assigned to a different fishing beat. Park in the Beat 3 parking stall and you get exclusive access to that section of stream.

I plan to attend the festivities this Saturday and plan to bring back a report. But you can already check out the particulars on our website... of course...

Follow this link CLINE RANCH SWA and check out the map and other information I have posted. I hope to add a few pictures next week.

Drink for Greenbacks

5% of Proceeds will be Donated

Cheyenne Mountain Chapter of Trout Unlimited (CMCTU) is proud to announce a launch celebration on Saturday, September 17th, welcoming Bear Creek Porter, a new beer brewed by Pikes Peak Brewing Company of Monument, CO. The brewing company is graciously donating 5% of the proceeds from the sale of this ale to benefit the CMCTU’s preservation efforts of the threatened Greenback Cutthroat Trout found in Bear Creek at the foot of America’s Mountain and other streams in the Pikes Pike Region.

A collaborative brew between the good folks from Pikes Peak Brewing Company and CMCTU, Bear Creek Porter flows over with a flavor of chocolate and roast, having just a hint of rye for balance. Upon word from the brewing company’s Brewmaster, Chris Wright, that CMCTU’s Bear Creek Porter would be available on September 17th, plans for a launch celebration were put in motion. The celebration will begin at 5:00 PM and be held at the brewery located at 1756 Lake Woodmoor Drive, Monument, CO.

We hope many of you will join us at the launch celebration and raise a pint to help benefit the protection of the Greenback and its habitats!

The "ONE" has Arrived

Sage Redefines casting accuracy with the ONE Rod...

Sage Manufacturing, fly-fishing industry leader, launches the ONE™ rod series. The ONE rod is the first precision casting instrument to take advantage of Sage’s groundbreaking Konnetic™ technology. The ONE offers exceptional tracking with virtually no lateral or torsional movement, resulting in astonishing casting accuracy that is unparalleled in the marketplace.

The inherent strength of Konnetic technology allows ONE rods to have a smaller diameter and 25% lighter blanks than comparable Sage rods. These attributes combine to provide augmented aerodynamic efficiency. Further innovations are the 70% lighter, low profile ferrules that help direct and carry energy through the rod without sacrificing strength, critical action and feel.

“The ONE rod becomes a true extension of the angler’s arm,” notes Sage Chief Rod Designer, Jerry Siem. “It offers a more fluid transmission of energy from the arm to the fly. The eye sees the cast it wants to make and is translated to the hand through the rod instantaneously.”

The fast-action ONE rod family is intended for all fishing conditions thanks to a list of high-end features. A custom cork handle is fashioned in a snub-nose, half-wells grip on the 3 through 6 weights and a full-wells handle with fighting butt on the saltwater capable 6 through 10-weights. Each handle is designed to match the exact taper of the rod providing even greater sensitivity and feel. Other details include the Sage designed round eye tip-top which never pinches or binds the line, allowing the caster to mend and cast in any direction with full control. On the 3 through 6 weights, the elegant walnut insert is perfectly married with the bronze anodized aluminum reel seat. Saltwater weights feature all anodized reel seat components. The ONE Rod comes in a new Black Ice color, which has a translucent finish and is complemented by black guide wraps and bronze trim wraps. Each rod comes with a powder-coated aluminum rod tube with Sage medallion and a hand-made rod sock.

“The ONE Rod is smooth and precise with an intentionally forgiving ‘sweet spot’ that complements widely diverse casting styles,” says Eric Gewiss, Sage’s Marketing Manager. “This helps the angler make a full range of close-in and long distance casts that hit the mark with equal ease. Being able to feel exactly what the line is doing through all stages of the cast gives anglers ultimate control so they can make the micro-adjustments needed to place the fly precisely where it’s wanted.”

Already award winning, the ONE rod has been recognized as the “Best New Fly Rod” at EFFTEX 2011 earlier in the summer in Amsterdam. And last month it won “Best New Fly Rod” at the International Fly Tackle Dealer Show.

Angler’s Covey now has a few model of the ONE rod in stock for you to test for yourself on our casting ponds. There will be available at 22 single hand models ranging from 3 through 10-weights and will be priced from $715 to $740.

About Konnetic™ Technology:

Konnetic technology, the most recent and significant evolution in fly rod innovation, uses new materials combined with pioneering manufacturing methods and processes. This technology incorporates an optimized ratio of Sage’s proprietary resin to exclusive high modulus aerospace-grade carbon fiber.

The latest construction methods include Sage’s Advanced Modulus Positioning System (AMPS); a process that precisely aligns and positions carbon fiber materials to exacting tolerances for the greatest blank strength delivering extremely efficient energy transfer throughout the shaft. Using Sage’s High Compression Molding process, carbon fibers are compacted for optimum density and precise alignment while simultaneously fusing the 50% lighter all-carbon fiber inner core.
