FUTURE INVESTMENTS
I just got back from a three day trip with a group of young men going thru a program called Training Ground. Twelve young men are going through a 11 week discipleship program designed to help them become men. They do this through work, adventure, story and interaction with older men. My role was to share my experiences in fly fishing as a guide and instructor. It was a great experience to share my passion for fly fishing with these young men, a few of them never having the chance before to even go fishing! We (us older and wiser crew) often complain about how this younger generation is going down the wrong path, but who is there to show them the right path? If you have volunteered to help kids discover life I want to thank you, if you have thought about doing something in the future I want to encourage you. Take some time and invest in the future.

HELP a BOY SCOUT

Summer Camp at Camp Alexander is in full swing and we still need volunteers to help teach these scouts the art of fly fishing. Fly Fishing is part the Boy Scout merit badge program and 8 weeks of each summer Anglers Covey helps organize volunteers to help teach casting, tying, and fly fishing on the South Platte.

Participants get the bonus of fishing the private water in Elevenmile Canyon the day they volunteer!

HELP Scouts and have FUN doing it!

CMCTU Withdraws Support for Gold Hill Mesa Project
Chapter Identifies Major Problems with Flood Control and Mine Tailings Stabilization on Fountain Creek

Board of Directors for the local Cheyenne Mountain Chapter Trout Unlimited have voted to withdraw support and oppose a proposed flood control and mine tailings stabilization project on Fountain Creek below Gold Hill Mesa.

Cheyenne Mountain Chapter Trout Unlimited has partnered with the City of Colorado Springs, Storm Water Enterprise, Colorado Department of Transportation, Gold Hill Mesa Partners, LLC and other stakeholders and subcontractors on the Gold Hill Mesa Project. Through consultations, Cheyenne Mountain Chapter Trout Unlimited provided stream stabilization and restoration recommendations which they have successfully implemented during their Trees for Trout projects in the South Platte River drainage and Pikes Peak Region.

Through their opposition the Board of Directors and Cheyenne Mountain Chapter Trout Unlimited members have noted the current project planned does not meet widely recognized standards necessary to meet the definition of “stream restoration”, and will actually do more harm than good to the existing biology and ecology of Fountain Creek.

The Board of Directors unanimously agreed; the flood control project has little to no restoration or conservation benefits for Fountain Creek or the community.

Cheyenne Mountain Chapter Trout Unlimited urges the public to contact the City of Colorado Springs, Storm Water Enterprise, the Colorado Department of Transportation and Gold Hill Mesa Partners, LLC and express their desire to have effective and sustainable restoration of this valuable resource and the responsible use of taxpayer dollars.
