Staff Spotlight Jared Sanders

If you ask Jared Sanders to name his greatest passion in exploring the outdoors, he has a difficult time narrowing it to one adventure.  And that is what makes Jared the ideal Assistant Manager at Pikes Peak Outfitters – sister shop to Angler’s Covey.

Jared grew up in Georgia but enjoyed family trips to Colorado ever since he was two or three years old. They’d mainly come out to go skiing, but Jared remembers feeling like being in Colorado was really “at the center of who I am. I felt like I belonged here.” After attending college in Georgia for two years, he decided five years ago to make the move to Colorado – without any real plans other than to get a job and experience more of the outdoor adventures his new home offers.

Jared has become an avid fly fisherman, of course, and he works in the Angler’s Covey shop as shift manager. He finished up his degree in Business Management at UCCS and brings that knowledge to our family of shops.  He has noticed that customers in both shops don’t come in just for the products we sell and rent.  “People come here for what we know. They pick our brains for information.”

While Pikes Peak Outfitters does sell supplies for outdoor adventures, many of the customers utilize the rental side of the shop.  For three seasons, much of the business centers around kayak and belly boat rentals. When temps drop, though, the winter business includes snowshoe rentals, ice fishing rentals – including rods and reels, fish finders, sheds, and augers.

“When people return to the shop after getting outdoors, I want to know that they had a great time. I want them to have a similar experience that I get when I head to the mountains.”

Even though Jared may not zero in on his greatest passion in the outdoors, he is pretty clear on what his outdoor experiences bring to his life.

“I get into that zone where you have to execute what’s right in front of you – whether it is finding the fish, making the cast, or making a move on a difficult pitch on a rock face. I get this deep satisfaction.”
