Get Outdoors Day June 1, 2019

You’ve probably figured out that we’re pretty much in love with fly fishing. Truth be told, though? We’re mainly in love with getting outdoors and enjoying all that Colorado offers in its 22 million acres of public lands. That’s why we love supporting Colorado Get Outdoors Day this Saturday in Colorado Springs’ Memorial Park from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.

 

Saturday, June 1, Angler’s Covey guides and staff will be hosting a booth where folks can learn some basics about fly fishing. From knot tying, to casting, to learning the life of bugs, we can jump-start your interest in fly fishing or refresh some key ingredients to this great sport.

 

Our sister shop, Pikes Peak Outfitters, will have kayaks and SUPs on Prospect Lake for you to try out.  This is always a popular activity for the day!  Head on over the west side of the Lake and look for our tent.

The first 1,000 kids will receive a free fishing pole! Diana Gantz is

preparing them now! 

 

There’s way more going on, though!  

 

Kids can shoot air rifles and .22s, throw hatchets, learn archery, try the climbing walls, try out a new fishing pole – the first 1,000 kids there will receive a fishing pole! 

 

Maybe you can’t mountain bike. Try a new pedal-assisted electric bike. Maybe you want to learn about mapping. Or perhaps bird watching is more your style. 

 

There will be a “touch a truck” area for kids to see and touch a variety of vehicles, such as those used by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. And U.S. Air Force Academy cadets will be there with falcons on their arms for a close look at live raptors from the AFA’s falconry program. 

 

Learn about trail maintenance, bird watching and conservation.

 

Play games and participate in scavenger hunts.

 

The event is FREE.  This Saturday, June 1, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in Memorial Park.  Find our shops over by Prospect Lake!

 

This day is hosted by Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance, the City of Colorado Springs’ Office of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife.  

 

But, wait! There’s more! Extend your fun through Sunday with the Free Fishing Weekend, Saturday and Sunday! No fishing license is required for folks to fish in Colorado’s public waters – lakes, reservoirs, rivers and streams!
