Fly Fishing Western Tailwaters

Pat Dorsey - Author/Guide - Blue Quill Anglers

Tailwaters provide extraordinary year round fishing, but you have to know how to fish them. Tailwater expert, angler and guide Pat Dorsey provides the tips and tactics you need to succeed in these challenging waters.

Pat will explain how Tailwaters work— how cold waters released from a dam affect the water, the aquatic insects, and the fish that eat them. He will describe the hatches, season by season, and provide fly pattern suggestions.

His detailed tips on how to “read the river” and how to “read the fish” are straight from his years of experience guiding and fishing some of the most fascinating water in the country.

Read about our interview with Pat for our blog here.

Then switch out to a different boot option and rinse and repeat.

It is STRONGLY recommended that you bring your own waders to assure the right fit, but our Simms reps can also evaluate your waders and answer any question you have on your wading options.

"Trout Tips: Secrets and Tactics for Selective Trout"

Landon Mayer -

Landon Mayer’s angling success is fueled by an addiction to pursuing large trout with small flies and lightweight fly-fishing equipment. Mayer enthusiastically teaches and demonstrates his techniques and on-river knowledge to fellow anglers and has developed innovative strategies for sighting, hooking, and landing selective trout. He shares these tips and secrets in his books 101 Trout Tips: A Guide’s Secrets, Tactics and Techniques (new for 2015), Colorado’s Best Fly Fishing, Sight Fishing for Trout, and How to Catch the Biggest Trout of Your Life. Landon’s passion for fly-fishing has allowed him to make several noteworthy contributions to the sport on and off the water.

Fly Fishing Patagonia

Robert Younghanz - The Bug Guy

Fly Fishing in Patagonia, is truly a once in a lifetime experience and ranks at the top on many an angler’s bucket list. I often describe the region as “Alaska fifty years ago”. With endless amounts of free flowing pristine river and bottomless crystal clear lakes fed by the Andes mountains, one could spend years there and never fish the same water twice. Even more amazing than the wild browns, rainbows and five species of salmon that inhabit the waters, is the lack of fishing pressure. It’s unlikely that one will see another fly fisher, while on the water nor will you likely find yourself fishing anything but dry flies! Plus, the natural beauty, is worth the trip in and of itself. Join Robert for an intimate perspective on all the wonderful experiences that this untapped world has to offer.

We will have free drawings for fly fishing gear throughout the day. At 3:00 p.m. we will have a drawing for an Orvis Hydros SL which you must be present to win.

We will also have a drawing for the Sage MOD fly rod which you need not be present to win. In order to be entered in this drawing, you will need to cast 5 new rods during our Casting Challenge.
